A trumeau is a central
pilier (pillar) or
meneau (mullion) dividing the door opening of a
portail (portal) of a church in two parts in order to create an intermediate support for a
linteau (lintel).
The picture shows a trumeau in the portal of the
cathédrale (cathedral) of Autun.
