Epannelé (crude ©)

The translation in the title is followed by this sign ©; this means that it has been "invented" by me.

The word is only used relating to stone carving, and it refers to an almost untreated piece of stone, in which nevertheless the final shape is recognizable.
This could be e.g. a chapiteau (capital), where the decorations have not (yet) been carved.
The crude capitals high in the nave are to be found in the Saint-Martin in Bragny-en-Charollais (Saint-Vincent-Bragny).
