Portail (portal)

Monumental main entrance in the façade (facade) of a church.
The portal is normally located on the west side of the church.
Bigger churches sometimes possess monumental side portals as well.
The picture shows the portail of the Saint-Nicolas in Marcigny, which obviously has seen better days.
