Westbau (westwork)
Préroman (Pre-Romanesque) churches from the carolingien (Carolingian) and ottonien (Ottonian) periods were often provided with an eastern as well as a western chœur (choir).
The picture shows the rather massive Westbau of the Saint-Philibert in Tournus.
